Groupthink

is a recurring phenomenon within groups in which the social pressure to conform to the group’s belief and decisions overrides the realistic consideration of alternative options, beliefs, actions and so on. Groupthink occurs most often when members are of the same or a similar background and are isolated from others. Groupthink is indicated by the members’ “illusion of invulnerability”, their belief that they can ‘do no wrong’, the stereotyping of the “enemy” and the self-censorship of dissenters.
